Portland Metro Newborn Photography and Videography: What to Expect During a Newborn Photography and Videography Session

Are you considering newborn photography and videography but have some questions? 
As a lifestyle newborn photographer and videographer, I understand the value and importance of capturing these early moments of your baby's life!

I don't offer standalone photography services. My main offering is video, but you'll receive a collection of beautiful photos as well. Together, they tell the full story of your baby's first days in a way that is both timeless and heartfelt.

“What can I expect during a newborn session?”

During a session, I’ll switch between taking photos and filming video to capture a full, heartfelt story of this special time.

I don’t give much direction during sessions. Instead, I let moments unfold naturally so I can capture the real, unscripted beauty of your everyday life. That said, there will be times when I gently guide you—for example, I might ask you to spend time in a certain area because the light is beautiful, or suggest we move on from an activity once I know I’ve captured plenty of footage or photos from it.

When I’m photographing, I can offer gentle direction if you’d like, especially to help you feel comfortable or to get a few sweet, posed shots. But I also love documenting the candid, in-between moments that reflect the real rhythm of life with a newborn.

My goal is to create a relaxed, meaningful experience that allows your family's love to shine through—naturally and beautifully.

“When should I schedule my newborn photography and videography session?”

The ideal window for capturing those sleepy, snuggly newborn shots is within the first two weeks after birth. Babies are usually sleepier and easier to curl up during this time, which allows for more relaxed, peaceful moments.

That said, I’ve done beautiful sessions with slightly older babies as well—there’s no “wrong” time to preserve your memories. Whether your baby is 5 days or 5 weeks old, what matters most is capturing your connection.

I recommend booking your session during pregnancy to secure a spot on my calendar. We’ll choose a tentative date and then finalize the timing once your baby arrives.

“Do I need to bring anything?”

For in-home sessions, you don’t need to bring anything at all—I come to you.

If there's a special blanket, swaddle, or heirloom toy that’s meaningful to you, feel free to have it nearby.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in your space. You don’t need a perfectly styled home or coordinated outfits. The beauty comes from your love and connection, not your decor.

“When will I get my photos?”

Photos are delivered within 2–4 weeks, and video delivery takes 4–8 weeks depending on the length and style of your film.

I take great care with editing to ensure your memories are presented in a heartfelt and cinematic way.

My packages include both the video and photos, and I’m happy to create a customized package that suits your family’s needs. Whether you want a full-length film or a short keepsake video paired with a gallery of still images, I’ll work with you to make sure the final result feels meaningful and true to you.

“How much does newborn photography cost?”

My newborn sessions start at $600 (price as of June 2025). Here’s what’s included:

• All pre-session planning, including wardrobe advice

• A 1 to 1.5-hour session in your home or at the hospital

• A 1–2 minute film, set to hand-selected, licensed music

• All post-production video editing and grading

• Plus 10–20 professionally edited digital photos

This might feel like a big investment, but it’s one that grows in meaning as time goes on. These early days are so fleeting, and having a beautifully crafted film and photo collection to look back on is something families treasure for years to come. I pour my heart into every session to create something timeless and heartfelt just for you.

For an additional $200, include a maternity session to document the beautiful journey before your baby arrives!
