Behind the Scenes of a Family Film Session
My approach to video and photo is very relaxed and observational, as opposed to traditional and directed. I don’t give much direction during sessions. Instead, I let moments unfold naturally. I'm there to witness the love that lives in the natural rhythm of your family’s connection.
There will be times when I give you guidance, for example I might ask you to hang out in a certain area because it has the best light, or I might suggest we move on from an activity once I know I've captured plenty of footage / photos from it. But the flow of the session is very loose and relaxed, and child led most of the time. It’s perfect for people who hate posing or feel awkward in front of the camera too!

2. Fill Out a Questionnaire
I'll send you a questionnaire which will help me get to know a bit about your family's story. Your answers will play a key role in developing the plans for your session.
3. Prep
We'll communicate in advance for various activities that will be filmed, wardrobe, start time and location.
Why I make Family Films
Hi I’m Mayumi!
I often wonder… what can I leave behind for my son if I’m not here one day? Money? Sure. But more than that, I want to leave him love—something he can hold onto, something he can feel.
My dad left me a DVD, filmed by my uncle. It shows our whole family together. I don’t have my dad anymore, but when I watch that film, I can still hear his voice. I can still feel his warmth, his love. That’s the kind of memory I want to leave for my son.
Every night, I tuck him into bed, give him a big hug, and tell him how much I love him. Our life is made up of everyday little things—breakfast chats, tantrums in the kitchen, bedtime routines. These small moments shape our relationships, our rhythms, and our memories.
I want to capture that. I want to show him what our life together looked like—and why it mattered. Because in the middle of all the chaos, there is beauty. There is love—deep, imperfect, real love.
That’s why I make family films. So that my son can always feel my love, hear my voice, and remember the life we shared. And I want to give your children that same experience—because love is the foundation of who we are. It shapes us, holds us, and connects us.
