Last-Minute Halloween Baby and Toddler Costume Ideas
If Halloween snuck up on you this year (again!), you’re not alone. Between school events, pumpkin patches, and everyday life, it’s easy to forget about costumes until the last minute. Luckily, you don’t need to spend hours sewing or searching for the perfect outfit.
As an Oregon family videographer, I know how fast these little moments pass — and how important it is to capture them. These two quick and easy toddler costume ideas are adorable, comfortable, and can be put together quick, perfect for busy parents who just want to enjoy the moment and snap a few cute photos before bedtime.
1. Pluto Costume (a.k.a. the Cutest Little Pup)
What you need:
Yellow rain boots or shoes
Black felt
A green dog collar or green ribbon
How to make it:
Cut two ear shapes out of black felt and sew them onto the hood of the jumpsuit. Add a green collar around your toddler’s neck — or use a simple piece of green fabric if you can’t find a collar. And that’s it! You’ve got an instant Pluto.
This one is especially fun if you want to coordinate as a family — parents can dress as Mickey and Minnie for a super cute group look. Bonus: it’s warm, comfy, and easy to move in, so no costume meltdowns!
2. TY Beanie Baby Costume
What you need:
A fluffy animal romper (bear, bunny, lion — anything works!)
Cardstock red paper
White paint pen or marker
How to make it:
Cut a heart shape from red paper and write “Ty” in white letters to mimic the classic Beanie Baby tag. You can also find free printable TY tags online — just search “Ty Beanie tag”!
Punch a small hole and tie it around the animal ear. Simple, recognizable, and ridiculously cute!
If you already have an animal romper from winter or previous costumes, this idea costs almost nothing — and it’s guaranteed to make everyone smile.
